Soil Health Assessment

You can't fix what you haven't measured. I look at your soil biology under the microscope, add lab chemistry if you need it, then give you a roadmap for your soils: what to fix first, what to use and what to expect. See assessments and prices.

Johnson-Su Compost Extract

The full soil food web in liquid form, made from 12-month Johnson-Su compost. It brings in bacteria, fungi, protozoa, nematodes and actinomycetes together.

When to use it: at the start of a biological transition, before planting, after a chemical application or as a regular seasonal program. Pasture and broadacre usually need 2–4 applications a year. Intensive horticulture does best with monthly applications.

Worm Casting Extract

Concentrated root zone biology for a faster, more visible plant response.

When to use it: at transplanting, flowering, fruit set or any high-demand growth stage. Use Johnson-Su as the seasonal foundation and worm extract at these key moments.

Liquid extract application rates

These rates suit both Johnson-Su Compost Extract and Worm Casting Extract. Always dilute in non-chlorinated water.

• Soil drench, pasture and broadacre: 20–40 L per hectare in 100–200 L of water. Apply late in the afternoon or on an overcast day, then follow with rain or irrigation within 24 hours.
• Soil drench, market garden and horticulture: 2–5 L per 100 m², diluted 1:10, straight to the root zone. Repeat monthly or at each crop establishment.
• Foliar spray: dilute 1:20. Spray in the early morning or late afternoon, never in direct sun or above 30°C.
• Seed treatment: dilute 1:5 and apply as a coat or soak before planting.
• Compost activation: 10–20 L per cubic metre of compost at the start of a new batch.

Don't mix extracts with copper fungicides, synthetic pesticides or chlorinated water. They kill the biology you're trying to apply.

Charged Biochar application rates

• Compacted or bare patches: 2–3 L per m², worked into the top 10 cm
• Garden and market garden beds: 1–2 L per m², worked into the top 10–15 cm
• Compost: 5–10% by volume at the start of a new batch
• Tree planting: 0.5–1 L per hole, mixed into the backfill
• Potting mixes: 5–10% by volume
